Removals calculator or survey — which should you use?
An online removals calculator is useful for a rough idea of cost. It turns a list of rooms or items into an estimated volume, then a van size and crew. The problem is that most people underestimate what they own — lofts, sheds, under-bed storage and full kitchen cupboards rarely make it onto a list — and a calculator can’t see a narrow stair turn or a 30-metre carry from the nearest parking space.
A survey catches those things before the day, so the van is big enough, the crew is the right size and the price doesn’t need to change. For studios and one-beds a quote from a list and photos is usually fine; for anything larger or more complicated, a survey is worth the time.
Video survey or home visit?
A video survey works on a normal phone video call. You walk us round each room, opening wardrobes and cupboards and showing the loft and any outside space, then step outside to show the street and parking. It suits most flats and houses and can be booked at short notice.
An in-person visit is better for large houses, properties with very awkward access, moves with pianos or specialist items, and office or warehouse moves where we need to measure and plan the route through the building.
